What Is

Drilling and Blasting?

Drilling and blasting is a common method used to remove solid rock from job sites. When construction crews need to dig into an area that has hard rock, blasting helps break that rock into smaller, manageable pieces. It’s often used for roads, driveways, foundations, utility trenches, and site grading.

The process includes two main steps: drilling and blasting.

Drilling

We begin by drilling holes into the rock in a planned pattern. The number, depth, and spacing of these holes depend on the size of the area and the type of rock.

Blasting

After the holes are drilled, we place controlled explosive charges into them. These are fired in a sequence that breaks the rock safely and efficiently. We use special equipment and timing systems to keep the blast focused on the target area.

What Makes It Safe?

We take safety seriously on every job. Our team has the training and experience to perform blasting work near homes, buildings, and other sensitive structures. We follow industry standards and state regulations, and we’re always prepared to adjust based on the conditions of each site.

Some safety measures include:

  • Careful review of nearby utilities, structures, and people
  • Controlled blasting patterns to limit ground vibration and noise
  • Use of protective mats when needed

In areas where blasting isn’t allowed, we offer non-explosive rock breaking. These materials expand in the drilled holes and slowly crack the rock without vibration.

When Is Blasting Needed?

If your job site has solid rock and you need to dig, build, or grade, blasting might be the most effective way to move forward. Some of the most common projects we help with include:

  • Foundations and basements
  • Road and driveway construction
  • Utility trenching
  • Site preparation
